New seasons, new topics and new viewers

A lot has been happening at KCTS 9 this fall. First, the new season of About the Money is well underway and we're starting to see some results. We adjusted the content to make it smarter and more broadly appealing. Some of the top shows so far have been the episode on Washington winemakers and this week's episode on holiday shopping. Another episode focused on the growing Latino population and the financial impact of that growth—both in terms of spending and in cultural shifts. The show's popularity is growing in the younger age groups (18-49 and 25-54) and it's more appealing to women compared with last season.

The New KCTS 9 Connects also launched this fall. The program is focused on new voices, new perspectives and new stories you won’t see anywhere else. The show has tackled the issue of mandatory drug testing for police officers, the tearing down of Seattle’s neighborhoods, and even the efforts to correct a miscarriage of justice 60 years after the lynching of a prisoner of war in Seattle.

About the Money airs Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. and The New KCTS 9 Connects airs Fridays, also at 7:30 p.m. You can catch up on past episodes "On Demand" on Comcast cable or by streaming or downloading them online.

I hope you've had the opportunity to see the new shows. If so, what do you think of the new formats? Is there a story that stands out for you? As always, feel free to leave a comment on the blog or e-mail me at dwarsinske@kcts.org with your thoughts. I look forward to hearing from you.
